freight people launch #talkingtransport

Welcome to freight people. We would love you to be involved.

21 January 2020 saw the launch of freight people.  Over 50 people attended and so a massive THANK YOU to everyone who supported us and for the kind feedback received – we were overwhelmed.

THANKS also to our fabulous sponsors, Novis Chartered Accountants, Wilby Solicitors, Driven Asset Finance, Motus Commercials and Backhouse Jones Solicitors

Our hot topic for the first event was bridge strikes. Transport lawyer Laura Hadzik from Backhouses gave an engaging presentation. This is a forum for fleet operators, which promotes open conversation and learning, but which can only occur if we are open, honest and allow ourselves to be vulnerable and talk of our experiences. Thanks also therefore to one of my valued clients who spoke of her Company’s experience of a driver hitting a bridge and the emotional, commercial and financial consequences.

These two presentations generated much animated debate. Everyone went away with lots of food for thought and ideas on how to protect their Companies by incorporating best practice procedures.

What is freight people?

freight people is a community of people who work in the transport industry, who are passionate about safety and compliance, continuous development and discussing with likeminded people. We hold monthly meetings for individuals of any job role, age or skill set to meet in convivial surroundings, to discuss transport hot topics, share best practice, offer support and to create a network to educate, assist and collaborate in tackling and resolving industry issues. Each month there is a presentation on a topical subject, the opportunity to ask questions based on the presentation and a question and answer session with our sponsors and industry experts.

Your host:

Lesley O’Brien is an award winning business professional with 40 years’ experience working in the road transport industry on both the international and national platform. She is a partner at freightlink europe and freight train and a dedicated champion of the transport industry with a focus on compliance, improving standards, conditions for Drivers and promoting transport as a career choice for young people. She sat on the Board of Directors of the RHA for over 8 years, is currently a member of the Yorkshire Maintenance Committee, RHA Security Forum and a Trustee of the RHA Benevolent Fund. She is a passionate advocate for women in transport and business.

Whilst there are many events focussing on increasing business through networking, Lesley’s focus in creating freight people is to link transport people of all ages and skill sets to share information and best practice, encourage and support one another, with access to industry professionals to assist with compliance with industry standards.
